• On April 3, 2024, the Fudan Institute for Global Public Policy (IGPP) organized the 52st lecture of the Fudan-LSE Lecture Series. Associate Professor Katja Levy from Political Science Department, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, delivered a lecture on the topic of Charity with Chinese Characteristics: Chinese Charitable Foundations Between State and Society. The lecture was chaired by Professor Yijia Jing, the Dean of the IGPP.

Professor Levy’s research focuses on Chinese domestic and foreign policies, with particular interest in China's state-society relations and EU-China relations. From a comparative political science perspective, Professor Levy compared the functions of Chinese and Western charitable foundations in terms of legal regulations, management system models, organizational structures, and other aspects. She noted that Chinese charitable foundations share some typical functions with their Western counterparts but also have Chinese characteristics.

During the Q&A and commentary session, Professor Jialiang Xu from the School of International and Public Affairs at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Assistant Professor Haoqi Qian from the IGPP provided their comments on the lecture and engaged in lively discussions.
